My Journey Into Resin Art

Updated: Sep 11

I didn’t set out to be a resin artist. In fact, it all began with curiosity and a class I booked online for my mom and I. It was then I knew- I found something I wanted to do more of.

What drew me in wasn’t just the shine or the colors—it was the way resin seemed alive. It moved, shifted, blended, and created patterns I never could have planned. I quickly realized that this medium embraced imperfection, and that idea became the heartbeat of my work.

Like many artists, I started by making gifts for family and friends. A pair of earrings here- a necklace piece there. The feedback was encouraging, but the real turning point came when I joined my first craft fair. Standing behind my table, nervous as can be, I realized that strangers connected with my work. They didn’t just see resin—they saw beauty, meaning, and possibility even when I saw something not good enough.

That moment gave me the courage to launch DS Imperfectly Perfect Designs. It was going to take awhile but the idea stirred relentlessly in my mind. The name itself comes from my belief that perfection is overrated. A bubble, a swirl, a shift in color—those are the details that make art human. God made us all imperfect, but to him we are perfect.

My journey hasn’t been without mistakes. I’ve had sticky pours, ruined molds, and pieces that simply didn’t work. I still do… and thank God for my patient husband, Jon. He lets me scream and vent then reminds me of my name and to learn from it- hence each failure has been a teacher. Resin art has taught me patience, flexibility, and resilience—skills I never expected to gain from just a hobby.

Now, resin isn’t just something I do—it’s part of who I am. Through my blog, I want to share not just the “how-to’s” but also the “why’s.” Because resin is more than art. It’s therapy, expression, and connection.

So if you’re new here—welcome. I hope you find inspiration in my journey and the courage to begin your own! Even if it’s not resin for you, take a step into the unknown. You may just like what you find!

Peace & Love,

DS
